About Shelly

Shelly grew up in the Asheville area until her family moved to the Triad area, but she always knew that one day she would return to the Blue Ridge Mountains and call them home again.

After earning a degree in Psychology from Western North Carolina University, Shelly felt she had more to offer as a teacher. She returned to college and received her Master’s in School Administration, where she played multiple roles: teaching at the high school level and overseeing the Pre-Kindergarten Special Needs program in Washington County. She spent most of her 30-year teaching career there.

After retiring from teaching, she and her husband returned home to the mountains. It wasn’t long after moving to Sylva that she met Bernie Gilchrist, and the idea of working together was born. Bernie felt that Shelly’s strengths in organization, research, and communication skills were exactly what his business needed. She is now not only Bernie’s Broker Assistant, but also a Buyer’s Agent on her own.

Shelly has a wonderful husband of 33 years, Tommy, and two beautiful grown children, Camille and Hannah. Shelly loves her family, fly fishing, hiking, and power walking.
